RKYC Learn to Sail

The First Learn To Sail Class at the RKYC 1964

The RKYC offers Learn to Sail programs for all ages and skill levels. With Canadian Yachting Association certified instructors, the club will help you learn to sail in many different sizes of boats.

The goal of the Junior Learn to Sail Program is to teach the safe and proper handling of a small sailboat while developing an enthusiasm and love of the sport. The course is taught according to the Canadian Yachting Association's standards emphasizing safety, theory, boat handling and sportsmanship.

The RKYC undertakes to ensure an enjoyable experience for all that attend the course(s).

New in 2008: Optimist Wetfeet Program

This is a new course recently formulated by the Canadian Yachting Association. It is designed to familiarize kids aged 5-8 with sailing and the water. Students will learn to put on a lifejacket, paddle a boat, and get an introduction to sailing. The emphasis of the course is on safety and fun. Students will also play games, and get acquainted with the water. Please note this is in addition to the existing Optimist program.
